Thank you all

People! Thank you for these days (and these nights), for the laughs, for your work, for your enthusiasm. You were the ones who made this a success. A hug and see you soon.-

Spanish day

Last day of exchange. The coffee was more special, without a doubt. During the morning the recording set, that is, our house, was more animated, the last takes were being shot so that suddenly you had to be silent or out of nowhere you would see someone running down the stairs.

A couple of hours later, attention was focused on the computers where the montages and the entire editing process were carried out. There was laughter, revisions of some notes and a lot of desire for the work to be well done.

In the afternoon, we finally got to know Mount Abantos, reaching a place called La Penosilla from where we had a magnificent view of the town of San Lorenzo de El Escorial and its famous monastery.

How could it be otherwise, when we returned we prepared for the party that our Spanish friends had prepared for us and the one that began with the distribution of gifts for the secret friend game and the premiere of our videos.

A great night to close a great exchange. Not wanting to leave but with the satisfaction of the finished work and of course meeting wonderful people.

A cinema set and a Croatia day

This morning, the second coffee for breakfast pointed out a truth that no one wanted to admit: we are in the final stretch of this exchange. We also realized that we like more to get down to work and enjoy the moment with others.

During the last two days of work we dedicated ourselves to creating a video (actually there are three, one per work team) following the theme of this exchange, that is, opening our doors after the most critical days of this pandemic. And we go by steps: the first thing we defined was what the theme of the video would be and to shape it we elaborated a script. As expected, there were people from top to bottom of our house looking for locations and paying attention to such details as natural light and ambient sound.

Although we have the morning of the next day to record and edit, we wanted to start today. Some group made it.

After dinner, our Croatian friends told us what was coming: we had to dress up because it was carnival night. The costumes were great!

Boca del Asno and Segovia Day

After breakfast we hit the road. The day of the first performance of our puppets had come, there were those who ran at the last minute because something was low. The nerves of the first show, you know.

In order to get to Segovia, the bus took the route of the Navacerrada mountain pass and showed us a beautiful landscape covered with snow. The first stop of our trip was in the natural park of "Boca del Asno" (literal mouth of the ass, due to the noise that the wind makes when passing in a river gorge) where we could take a short walk and admire the wealth a native of the area, listen to stories of Romans and the ancient kings of Spain.

Segovia was waiting for us with open arms and with the sun high in the sky. We set up our stage and having the ancient Roman aqueduct in the front row, we began our theatrical journey. It was a lot of fun, and at the same time, we were very proud to see that all the teams did a very good job creating stories and characters. Really, many congratulations.

Upon returning home, and after dinner, we had a space for a cinema-forum in which we were able to question the responses that people and governments had to the Covid epidemic.

Housework, nature and Estonian day

There is nothing better than the sun on cold mornings in the mountains of Madrid. It makes you want to have your first coffee (or first tea) on the porch of the hostel we call home these days. If after that first step you are ready to play what the Estonian team has prepared, there is nothing better.

Great morning menu: Cold, sun, coffee (or tea), games, laughter and great enthusiasm.

For the rest of the morning we continue to trim mustaches, make hats, glue eyes, and do the first rehearsals for our plays. We were already on the countdown to our big premiere and we should have our puppets and all the props ready.

In the afternoon we went out to explore the surroundings a bit. A short walk took us to the foot of Mount Abantos where we discovered a very beautiful little corner and we started looking for insects and plants in order to learn a little more about the ecosystem of the area. Also, we were able to hear some stories from the place.

In the evening the sweets brought by our Estonian friends and their dances were the perfect ending to a quite profitable day.

Workshops and Greece Day

Our Sunday began in the middle of the snow that fell in Alto del León, a mountain pass in the Sierra de Guadarrama. There we take a short walk and explore the old military bunkers in the area.

In the afternoon we got down to work: on the one hand we began to make the puppets with which we would set up our theater during the visit to Segovia and on the other, we created the stories that we would represent. These working groups were made up of participants of different nationalities, so we had a fantastic brainstorming session and it was difficult for us to decide on just one story.

In the evening, our Greek friends staged a wedding in the most traditional Hellenic style where dances and music were not lacking, as well as a sample of their delicious gastronomy.

A trip through Madrid

We would tell a lie if we said we were not looking forward to this day. And twice. On the one hand, we would walk the streets of one of the historic European capitals and we would also begin with the dissemination campaign of our project, that is, this was a day where we told the people of Madrid what Open Your Doors is about and why we became in your neighbors for at least a few days.

Have you tried using a city game as a travel guide? We recommend it, it is one of the best ways to get to know the best parts of the city.
